My interest in photography was sparked in high school. I fantasized for years about becoming a wildlife photographer but always shrugged it off as just a pipe-dream. It truly became a passion, however, only a few years ago.
I was having a hard time figuring out what I wanted to study in school and finally decided to take a Photo 1 class just for fun. My family and I were going through several trials and tribulations at the time; as the saying goes, 'when it rains, it pours'. Through these tough times it was photography that became my therapy, my go to source for tranquility and emotional rejuvenation. By the end of the semester, a fiery passion had been born deep within me.
After my dad passed away, I headed off to Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana. It was a tough time for me as I missed my dad dearly. But, he became the inspiration for my first project, a slideshow put to the music,"Mad World". It was through this project that my career path in photography took a drastic turn.
I realized just how incredible human emotions are. Real. Honest. Emotions. I learned that I absolutely love the complexity of our emotions and I yearned to capture that with my camera. This desire to capture true emotions is why I employ a photojournalistic approach to my photography. For I believe a true emotion captured on film, a real moment, good, bad or ugly, is a beautiful thing.
